Dr. Parekh offers a wide array of surgical services for the eye.
He performs routine cataract surgery in addition to offering premium cataract options, which can help you be glasses-free after surgery. He performs YAG Laser Capsulotomy to remove the scar tissue that can sometimes build-up after cataract surgery. In addition, he is the only surgeon in the area able to offer a laser ‘touch up’ or ‘enhancement’ after cataract surgery, allowing a level of accuracy with cataract surgery that others can’t match. This is especially reassuring for those patients who don’t want to wear glasses or contact lenses after cataract surgery.
In addition, he has extensive experience in Refractive Surgery. He is the only surgeon in the area offering ‘Bladeless LASIK’. He has been doing Bladeless LASIK for almost 10 years, while other surgeons in Central and Western PA have only recently begun to offer this procedure, if at all. For patients who are not candidates for LASIK, he offers many other procedures to decrease your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, including PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy), and RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange).
He also offers corneal surgical procedures. For the surface of the eye, he is able to treat Basement Membrane Dystrophy and Recurrent Corneal Erosions with treatments like Superficial Keratectomy (SK) and Photo-Therapeutic Keratectomy (PTK). He also performs Amniotic Membrane treatments. For corneal diseases like Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy, he offers the DSEK (Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty) partial thickness cornea transplant procedure.
Finally, he offers an extensive number of open angle glaucoma procedures. He prefers to keep things convenient and simple for glaucoma patients, and can perform a number of laser and surgical procedures that can help patients avoid annoying and expensive glaucoma eye drops. The SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) laser procedure is a very safe and highly effective treatment that can take the place of a glaucoma eye drop medication as first or second line treatment.
There are also glaucoma surgical procedures, like the Kahook Dual Blade Goniotomy procedure that are minimally invasive and can lower the eye pressure and decrease the need for the patient to be on glaucoma eye drop medications.
In terms of narrow angle glaucoma or angle closure glaucoma, Dr. Parekh performs the LPI (Laser Peripheral Iridotomy) procedure. This is a safe and effective laser procedure done in the office to open up the angle, also known as the draining channel of the eye. Over time the angles can become narrow again, in which case lens replacement surgery is performed. On occasion, the initial LPI will not completely solve the narrow angle problem, in which case lens replacement surgery offers the definitive treatment to open the angle.
